Why doesn't the Fire Department have more Volunteers?
The State of Florida passed a rule that all Volunteer Firefighters take a 240 hour class to teach them Firefighter I basic skills this was once a 40 hour class. Most volunteers found it a task unreachable due to the long hours and physical demand both on family and work. In Polk County alone the number of Volunteer Firefighters have gone from 300+ to less then 85 active members.
